Process of Installing Wallpaper to Walls

Installing wallpaper is an effective way to enhance the appearance of interior spaces, adding color, texture, and personality to a room. The process requires careful preparation, precision, and patience to achieve a smooth and professional finish.

The first step in wallpaper installation is surface preparation. The walls must be clean, dry, and smooth. Any existing wallpaper, dust, or grease should be removed. Cracks and holes are filled with putty, and rough areas are sanded. Applying a primer or sealer helps the wallpaper adhesive bond properly and prevents moisture damage.

Next comes measuring and cutting the wallpaper. Accurate measurements are taken of the wall’s height and width. The wallpaper roll is unrolled, and strips are cut with a few extra inches to allow for trimming. For patterned wallpaper, it is essential to align the design carefully before cutting, so that the patterns match perfectly when applied.

After cutting, applying the adhesive is the next step. Some wallpapers are pre-pasted, while others require a separate paste to be brushed or rolled onto the back of the paper or directly onto the wall. Once the adhesive is applied, the wallpaper is gently folded and left to rest for a few minutes to activate the glue.

The installation process involves placing the first strip on the wall, starting from a plumb line to ensure straight alignment. The wallpaper is then smoothed from the center outward using a wallpaper brush or smoothing tool to remove air bubbles and wrinkles. Excess paper at the top and bottom is trimmed with a sharp knife.
